Michelle Law is a freelance writer based in Brisbane, Australia. She writes for magazines, journals, newspapers, film and television, including the Sydney Morning Herald, frankie magazine, and the Griffith Review, as well as being a social influencer. She lived at International House in 2008, the first year of her Bachelor of Creative Writing degree at Queensland University of Technology.

Benjamin Milton Hampe lived at International House from 2000-2001 and has gone onto be a force to be reckoned with in the art world in Singapore where he is the Co-Owner and Director of Chan Hampe Galleries located within Singapore’s esteemed Raffles Hotel.

She is now the Owner of Tiffany Jones Art Gallery in Buderim, one of the most beautiful galleries on the Sunshine Coast, offering a stunning selection of Fine Art, exotic architecture and picturesque gardens.

Virginia-Greville-updateVirginia Greville is the newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Spain, Andorra and Equatorial Guinea, based in Madrid. She was previously Ambassador to Chile and Minister-Counsel in Washington D.C. Virginia lived at International House in 1973 whilst completing her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Queensland.

Winnie Anna Kiap is the current High Commissioner for Papua New Guinea to the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, South Africa and Zimbabwe, based out of  the PNG Mission in London. She was previously touted as “The Most Powerful Woman in PNG” in her role as Secretary to the National Executive Council. Winnie resided at International House in 1969-71 and again in 1977 whilst studying for her Bachelor of Arts.

Steven Skala AO is the Vice Chairman of Deutsche Bank for Australia and New Zealand. He has been a member of the Australian Broadcasting Corporations (ABC) Board of Directors since 2006 and is also a Director of the Australian Ballet. He resided at International House whilst studying his BA, LL.B. (Hons), History, Psychology and Law. In 2015, Steven was awarded the Colleges’ UQ Alumnus of the Year Award at the 2015 Courting the Greats held at City Hall.

David Watson sits as the Independent Chair of Translational Institute Pty Ltd and  is a member of the Board of Major Brisbane Festivals Pty Ltd. David was also a Member of the House of Representatives and the Queensland Parliament. He was a resident of International House from 1966 to 67 whilst studying his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Queensland.

Malcolm Snow is Chief Executive Officer at National Capital Authority, the key agency for planning & development of Canberra’s cultural & political heart who lived at International House from 1975-77 whilst studying for a Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning. Malcolm was also awarded the inaugural Colleges’ UQ Alumnus of the Year Award in 2014.

Andrew Metcalfe AO joined EY’s Government & Public Sector team as a Partner in 2014. This follows a long & distinguished career in the Australian public service, most recently as the Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Andrew resided at International House from 1977 to 1979 whilst he completed his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Queensland.

Keng Yuen Leong lived at International House from 1969 to 1970 whilst he studied for his Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours). He was a partner at Ernst & Young Malaysia before retiring in 2005 and now sits on multiple boards.

Today he is the Vice-President (Technical) for Klohn Crippen Berger in Canada, where he utlises his vast experience in geotechnical and earthquake engineering, as well as being an Adjunct Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at The University of British Columbia.

Francis (Frank) Halim lived at International House from 1978 to 1981 whilst he studied at the University of Queensland for a Bachelor of Engineering Chemical. He went on to work in senior roles for many Australia cooperation’s and is now the Managing Director of Eaton Powerware in Melbourne.

Karen Gibson is Program Director at BT Global Services & is leading the planning work for ICT Infrastructure at the new Sunshine Coast Hospital due to open late 2016. She lived at International House from 1976-78 whilst completing her Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Queensland. Her husband, Peter Gibson, is also an IH Alumnus.

Eddie Tang was a Foundation student living at International House from 1965-66 whilst studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Queensland. Eddie is currently the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Medvance Pte Ltd prior to which he was also the Chief Executive Officer of Four Seasons Bank Ltd.

Michael Leary lived at International House in 1988 whilst studying for an MBA in Corporate Planning and Strategy at the University of Queensland. Since 2009, Michael has been the Director of Sunset Pacific Limited, a private investment firm. Whilst at IH, Michael met his wife, Mari (née Endo) and they now live with their family in France.

Nguyen-Duc

Nguyen Duc was a Foundation resident, living at International House from 1965-72 whilst studying first for a Bachelors of Engineering and then a PhD in Telecommunications. Since 2011, Nguyen has been the Principal Broadband Policy/Strategy Advisor for EagleComms Advisory having spent over 20 years at Telstra.

Sam Hawgood

Professor Sam Hawgood is the Chancellor of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) as well as Dean of UCSF School of Medicine and Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs. Sam lived at International House in 1970 whilst studying for his MBBS at the University of Queensland, where he also met his wife, Jane (née Petty) (1969-72).

Kanchana 600

Dr Kanchana Kanchanasut is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Internet Education and Research Laboratory at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok. She was recently inducted into the Global Internet Hall of Fame and resided at International House in 1974 whilst studying for her BSc in Computer Science at UQ.

Professor Marcia Langton lived at International House in 1969, the first year that we welcomed women to live in G-Tower. She is now a Professor at the University of Melbourne within the Melbourne School of Population & Global Health. She is the Foundation Chair of Australian Indigenous Studies at the University, a position she has held since February 2000.

John-BraithwaiteProfessor John Braithwaite lived at International House in 1971 whilst studying at the University of Queensland for a Bachelor of Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology. He is a renowned criminologist and is currently a Distinguished Professor at the College of Asia and the Pacific at Australian National University.

graeme-orrProfessor Graeme Orr is a Professor of Law at the T.C Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland, having spent 13 years as an Associate Professor at Griffith University. Graeme studied for a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law at the University of Queensland whilst living at International House from 1984-87.

Laurent-RivoryProfessor Laurent Rivory lived at International House from 1979 – 82 whilst studying at the University of Queensland. He is now Pro Vice Chancellor (Strategic Collaborations and Partnerships) at the University of Sydney having previously held the position of Professor of Pharmacology at the same university.

Edward TongEdward Tong lived at International House from 2001 – 2003 whilst studying for a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland. He is now Vice President, Model Risk Management at Bank of America having recently completed a PhD in Management Science at the University of Southampton. He previously held positions at AIG, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland and Suncorp.

The Honourable Justice David Jackson QC

The Honourable Justice David Jackson is a Supreme Court Justice for the Supreme Court of Queensland and the Chair of the Queensland Law Reform Commission who lived at International House from 1974 to 1975 whilst studying for his LLB at the University of Queensland.

Jeffrey-SpenderThe Honourable Justice Jeffrey Spender was a Foundation resident of International House living here from 1965-68 whilst studying for a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law at the University Queensland. He was appointed as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia in 1984, retiring in 2010 and is the current Master of the College, having held this position since 1996.

The Honourable Justice James Henry lived at International House from 1980-83 whilst he studied for a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law at the University of Queensland.In 2011, Jim was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland, where he serves as the Far Northern Judge, based in Cairns.

Katie-Stride

Katie Stride lived at International House from 1991-94 whilst studying for her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law at the University of Queensland. She is currently the Assistant Crown Solicitor and Special Counsel at Crown Law in their Native Titles and Resources Team. She was previously the Registrar for the Queensland Land Court and ran an Indigenous service delivery organisation in Mt Isa.

1980---Peter-JanssenPeter Janssen lived at International House from 1978-1980 and was IHSC President in 1980 as well as the founding editor of Jen (IH newspaper) that year. Peter was awarded a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law from the University of Queensland and admitted as a Solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 1989.  Peter commenced his career with a top tier legal firm Clayton Utz, to now, developing and managing his own legal firms. Tonya Golberg

Antonina (Tonya) Golberg lived at International House from 2004-05 whilst completing her Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Arts in International Business Management at the University of Queensland She is now at Aesop as their Digital Marketing Manager, based in Melbourne, having previously worked for Mindshare as a Media Executive.

Lucas Yelland lived at International House from 2002-03, whilst studying for his Bachelor’s in Music Production at the Queensland University of Technology, He is now based in London as the Head of Digital Magazine Strategy and Audience Development for the Net-a-Porter Group where he specialises in content strategy.

Benjamin Law lived at International House from 2000-01. He is a journalist, columnist, screenwriter and author. He is a frequent contributor to Good Weekendfrankie and The Monthly and the author of The Family Law (2010) and Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East (2012) as well as the co-author of S**t Asian Mothers Say (2014) with his sister, IH Alumnus Michelle Law (2008) .

Amra Naidoo

Amra Naidoo lived at International House from 2007 – 2009 whilst she completed her Bachelor of Business Management in International Business and Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs at the University of Queensland. Whilst here she also met her partner, Mike Brown (2005-07). She is now Head of Media Relations and Corporate Partnerships for UN Women Singapore Committee and the Global Team Lead for Project Inspire.

Dr Gavin Macgregor-Skinner is the Director of Global Disaster Response at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Services at Penn State Hershey, Global Projects Manager at the Elizabeth R Griffin Research Foundation and Senior Public Health Adviser for the US State Department Gavin resided at International House from 1986-89 whilst he studied for his Bachelors in Veterinary Science at UQ.

Dr Donna O’Sullivan is the Executive Director of Medical Services at Metro North Hospital and Health Service having previously been the Director of Medical Services at numerous Brisbane hospitals. He is now Founder and Technical Director of Kingsford Environmental (Hong Kong) as well as being an Adjunct Professor at the Advanced Water Management Centre at the University of Queensland.

Barbra Timmer lived at International House in 1989 for her postgraduate degree in Audiology at the University of Queensland. She is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Queensland after having spent nearly 20 years at Phonak in various audiology roles including Director of Audiology and Education.

Jwee-Chiek-Er

Jwee Chiek Er lived at International House between 1983 and 1989 whilst completing his Bachelors of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland. Since 2007, Jwee Chiek has been at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute as a Research Scientist and where he also completed his PhD.

Daniel-Grainger-update

Daniel Grainger lived at International House from 1991-95. He graduated from UQ with a Bachelor Engineering (Hons) (Major in Electrical and Electronics) in 1995. He has been instrumental in delivering and improving access for remote communities to telecommunication services as a result of founding the Cape York Digital Network (CYDN).  He is currently completing a PhD  at JCU in Townsville.

Marcel Noronha is a high Performance Coach and Psychologist with Performance Whisper, Head Coach of the UQ Rugby Team and the Brisbane Area Psychologist for the Salvation Army. Leanne Evans

Leanne Evans lived at International House from 1978-81 whilst completing her Bachelor of Human Movement Studies at the University of Queensland. She is now the Executive Officer of the Australian WomenSport and Recreation Association, based on the Gold Coast and Director of the Buderim Foundation.

Neil-Patterson

Neil Patterson lived at International House from 1006-07 whilst studying for a Bachelor of Engineering. He now works for the Land Engineering Agency in Ballistics and Range Safety. After breaking his back in Croatia in 2011, Neil is also planning to compete for Australia in Sailing at the Paralympic Games in 2016.

Jean-Sebastian Boulanger

Jean-Sebastian Boulanger is a Canadian entrepreneur who lived at International House in 2002 whilst on exchange from McGill University in Montreal, Canada where he was studying for his Bachelor’s in Computer Science. He is currently the Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of Circle Medical – the doctor’s office that comes to you, paid for by your insurance.
