Neil and Margaret Holm's Story
Past Directors (1987-1999)
Where are they now
We returned to Brisbane (Inala) in October 2010 after time in Tennant Creek, Kings Cross, and Marsfield (near Macquarie Uni). Everywhere we go we delight in surprise meetings with people who shared our International House experiences: a café in Mt Isa; a visit to Alice Springs and Uluru; a medical centre, shopping centre and park near Macquarie University; crossing a busy road and using escalators at a station in Sydney; popping out for milk late at night in Kings Cross; a waiting area at Bangkok Airport; performances at QPAC and the Powerhouse; catching a film the Regal Cinema; browsing Brisbane city market; grand parenting at a school fete; popping into a lift at a hospital; and relaxing with a coffee in Annerley.
When we were at IH, we enjoyed the opportunity to visit residents in their home countries and, on occasion, stay in their homes. Since leaving IH, we have enjoyed having people visit and also stay with us in our home and, yes, in each place we have lived since 1999 even Tennant Creek!
Using Facebook is our latest way of keeping in touch but we appreciate email contact as well and those wonderfully welcome Christmas letters that have allowed us the privilege of meeting partners (the ones not found at IH!) and watching families grow.
As we thought about our time at IH and the time that has passed since we left in 1999, we realised that its the relationships we and our children formed with residents, alumni and staff that continue to enrich our lives. Each resident and staff member gave something of themselves to us and, hopefully, gained something from us. Each encounter reminds us of the cultural and intellectual richness of our time at IH. Thank you!
If you would like to get in touch with Neil and Margaret they will be attending the up and coming Past IHSC Executive and General Committee Reunion here and/or you can email them by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org
